CHICAGO (October 26, 2020) — The Chicago Red Stars have acquired full roster protection in the 2021 NWSL Expansion Draft from Racing Louisville FC in exchange for forward Savannah McCaskill, midfielder Yuki Nagasato, the 5th overall selection in the 2021 NWSL Draft, and an international slot for 2021 and 2022.
The deal was executed as the NWSL’s trade/waiver window closed Thursday at the conclusion of the league’s 2020 competition schedule.
“We want to thank Savannah and Yuki for their commitment and contributions to this club both on and off the field. While we’ll miss having them both on the pitch with us, we look forward to watching them thrive in Louisville,” said Chicago Red Stars Head Coach Rory Dames.
Acquired by Chicago via trade in June of 2019, McCaskill has made 28 appearances for Chicago over the past two years, including 10 over the span of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and NWSL Fall Series. She scored two goals and assisted three more during her time in Chicago, including a goal in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup Semifinal.
Nagasato was acquired by Chicago in May of 2017 after having previously won a FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League. Nagasato made 52 appearances for Chicago over the span of three years. In 2019, she would lead the league with 8 assists and earn a place in the 2019 NWSL Second XI.
In return for McCaskill, Nagasato, the 5th overall selection in the 2021 NWSL College Draft, and two International Slots, Chicago has acquired full roster protection from Racing Louisville FC in the upcoming NWSL Expansion Draft taking place on Thursday, November 12.
