Kayla Sharples, originally from Naperville, IL, joined the Red Stars in 2019 when she was selected 26th overall in the NWSL College Draft. Sharples was on loan to Finland club Kuopion Palloseura where she made nine appearances and scored one goal in 2020, and upon her return to Chicago she played 167 minutes in three matches in the NWSL 2020 Challenge Cup. Sharples attended Northwestern University where she made the All-Big Ten First Team for three consecutive seasons.
