Tierna Davidson, Alyssa Naeher and Julie Ertz named to the Women’s National Team Tokyo Roster and Casey Krueger named as Alternate
Chicago (June 23, 2021) - The United States Women’s National Team (U.S. WNT) announced their 2020 Olympic Team Roster for the upcoming games in Tokyo. Red Stars defender Tierna Davidson, midfielder Julie Ertz and goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher were selected as part of the 18-player roster. In addition, Red Stars defender Casey Krueger was named as an alternate.
In 71 career appearances, Naeher has 42 clean sheets with the U.S. WNT. Naeher was in net against France and Sweden during the squad’s victories over both teams in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. More recently, Naeher made the Starting XI during the U.S. WNT’s wins against Portugal and Nigeria as part of the 2021 Summer Series.
Davidson already has 32 international appearances, one goal, and five assists at 22 years old. She has made several appearances for the squad in 2021 including earned starts in the U.S. WNT’s match against Argentina in the finale of the SheBelieves Cup and versus Jamaica during the Summer Series.
With 110 U.S. WNT appearances, Ertz totals 20 goals and four assists. She was honored as 2019 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year and was named to the 2019 FIFA FIFPro World XI. Ertz was unable to join the team for the Summer Series due to an MCL injury suffered while playing with the Chicago Red Stars in the first game of the new NWSL season.
Krueger has 34 appearances and 3 assists with the U.S. WNT squad. Krueger was named to the roster for the 2020 SheBelieves Cup where she was a substitute in the 61st minute in the U.S.’ final match against Japan, helping the team clinch the win 3-1.
