Three Chicago Red Stars Join USWNT for Upcoming January Training Camp

CHICAGO, IL. (Jan. 12, 2022) – Three Chicago Red Stars will join the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) next week for the team’s annual January training camp taking place January 19-28. Defender Tierna Davidson, goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and forward Mallory Pugh will join the rest of the USWNT team in Austin, Texas for the January camp.

Davidson and Naeher were both part of the U.S. team that won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics last summer. In Davidson’s 45 appearances with the team, she has scored one goal and assisted on seven others. Appearing in two FIFA World Cups, Naeher has made 78 appearances with the national team and recorded 44 clean sheets. Pugh made an electric return to the USWNT last year, her first call up to the national team since the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The forward assisted on three goals in her first game and started in three of four matches in September and October.

Joining the three players at the national team camp next week will be the Head Athletic Trainer of the Red Stars and member of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute (IBJI), Emily Fortunato, and the Red Stars’ Equipment Manager, Angelina LoDolce. Both have previous experience with the national team: Fortunato was part of the Red Stars contingent in Tokyo and LoDolce traveled with the USWNT to Australia for their matches against the Matildas in November of 2021.

This training camp marks the first action of 2022 for the USWNT, but it will not include any international matches. The USA’s first matches of the year will take place at the 2022 SheBelieves Cup, against the Czech Republic (Feb. 17) and New Zealand (Feb. 20) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., and Iceland (Feb. 23) at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
