The Chicago Red Stars Rename Press Row in Honor of Ida B. Wells

Occasion to be marked with a virtual celebration on February 25th

Chicago (February 19, 2021) - The Chicago Red Stars announced today that they are formally renaming Press Row at SeatGeek Stadium in honor and memory of Ida B. Wells.

To mark the occasion and to cap off Black History Month, the club will host a virtual celebration on Thursday, February 25th at 6:30 PM CT. The evening will include a conversation with Black female storytellers, influencers and change makers Arielle Chambers and Niema Dancy moderated by Chicago Red Stars defender and trail blazer, Sarah Gorden.

“I look forward to an important and timely conversation with two strong Black female voices I admire,” says Gorden. “I’m hoping attendees walk away with an understanding of how they can elevate and amplify Black storytellers and why that support, particularly for Black women, is a non-negotiable at this pivotal moment in time.”

Arielle Chambers is a Bleacher Report talent, multi-media journalist, host, and social media manager who was recently named to Forbes’ esteemed 30 under 30. She utilizes storytelling to amplify the voices of women and magnify their excellence. Chambers seeks to show girls and women, world-wide, that their potential is limitless.

Niema Dancy is a Chicago native and the current Director of Communications and Development at ConTextos in Chicago and El Slavador. She is an Emmy award-winning journalist turned communications & media professional who has spent the last four years helping to unearth stories and amplify voices at local community organizations, while simultaneously working to dismantle and disrupt harmful and inauthentic narratives.

The evening will conclude with a performance by storyteller Aisha Truss-Miller. Truss-Miller is dedicated to “building movements to dismantle all systems designed to oppress and

inflict violence on me and my people, and profit from our pain and power." She will read an original piece born from ConTextos' latest program: Into A Black Beyond.
