Pugh, Milazzo score in five goal battle, Red Stars fall 3-2

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 10, 2021) - Mallory Pugh returned to the scoresheet with a first half goal and Tatumn Milazzo scored her first career NWSL goal in the second, however, the Chicago Red Stars would fall to OL Reign by a score of 3-2 Sunday, October 10.


KEY MOMENTS

14’ - Kealia Watt finds Mallory Pugh outside of the box, who then slots the ball in the bottom corner of the net to give the Red Stars the early lead


31’ - OL Reign’s Jess Fishlock fires from long range and finds the top corner of the net to even the score 35’ - Sofia Huerta sends a cross into the box that finds Fishlock for a header to give Reign a 2-1 lead


50’ - Huerta finds Rose Lavelle who curls a shot from outside of the box into the back of the net to give Reign a 3-1 lead


69’ - Tatumn Milazzo takes advantage of Vanessa DiBernardo shot deflection and scores her first career NWSL goal from outside of the box to bring the Red Stars within one goal (3-2)


GAME NOTES

  • Rookie defender Tatumn Milazzo’s shot from outside the box found the top-corner, which resulted in her first NWSL career goal and brought the Red Stars within one at the 69th minute. Milazzo, who was part of four Chicago substitutions that occurred at the 64th minute, finished the contest with 20 touches, two clearances and eight passes.

  • Mallory Pugh was back to her goal scoring ways, opening up the game with a goal in the 14th minute off of a Kealia Watt assist. Pugh would be subbed off at the 64th minute, but not before registering 40 touches, four shots with two on target, 22 passes and a team-high five crosses.

  • Playing the entire match, Sarah Woldmoe dictated the tempo in Chicago’s midfield and helped spur the Red Stars to both their opening goal in the first half and their comeback charge in the second half. Woldmoe finished the game leading the team in touches (74), tackles (7), total passes (52) and passes in the opposition’s half (32). She would also add a shot on goal to her final stats.
