Previous Result CHI: Makenzy Doniak scored in stoppage time at the end of the game, but the Red Stars fell to Gotham FC on the road 2-1. WSH: Ashley Hatch and Sam Staab got on the scoresheet for Washington as the Spirit defeated Racing Louisville FC 2-0.

Storylines

#CHIvWAS, pt. 3: Sunday evening’s matchup at home against Washington will be Chicago’s third and final for the season and the second time at home. In their most recent matchup on July 2, the Red Stars came away with a 1-0 victory on the road against Washington from Own Goal’s 33rd minute strike. The last home matchup for the Red Stars against the Spirit was Chicago’s Juneteenth game, where a Morgan Gautrat penalty in the second minute of the second half’s stoppage time equalized the game at 1-1.

Neighborhood Night Festivities: For the first time ever, the Chicago Red Stars will be hosting “Neighborhood Night” to celebrate Chicago’s 77 neighborhoods. The first 1000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative poster highlighting all of Chicago’s surrounding neighborhoods. In addition, the Red Stars will be hosting a “garage sale” where items such as classic jerseys, bobbleheads, autographed memorabilia and more will be up for sale. A portion of proceeds will benefit the CRS Cares Foundation. Fans will need a ticket to the game in order to access the garage sale.

Iron Woman: Sarah Gorden comes into this weekend tied for the most minutes played in the league this season, having started every single game so far and playing in every single minute of the Red Stars’ 12 regular season games up to this point. Gorden, who has played 1080 minutes and tied with Gunny Jónsdóttir of Orlando for most minutes played in the season, has a tackle success rate of 81.8%, 40 clearances and 16 interceptions defensively.
