Storylines

CRS Milestone Watch: Fans in attendance have a chance to potentially see three Red Stars achieve significant NWSL milestones. Vanessa DiBernardo, who is currently at 9,997 minutes played in her career, is just three minutes shy from reaching the 10K minutes club. She will be just the sixth player in league history to play more than 10,000 minutes with the same club and the first to do so for the Chicago Red Stars. Kealia Watt, currently at 9,958 minutes, also has a chance to reach the 10K total minute mark for her NWSL career. Mallory Pugh is also on the cusp of her own milestone, as any appearances made in Sunday’s game would put her at 50 NWSL games played in her career.

A Favorite Returns: OL Reign’s Sofia Huerta makes her return to where her career began for the first time in an opposing team’s uniform since being traded to Houston during the 2018 season. The three-time NWSL Second XI team member (2015 and 2017 with Chicago, 2018 predominately with Chicago prior to Houston trade) returns to Chicago also with a milestone within reach. She currently sits on 9,919 total minutes played in her NWSL career.

Sharp(les) in the Defense: Kayla Sharples’ consistent run of play as part of Chicago’s backline has been a big part of Chicago’s success in recent games. On the season, Sharples has a success rate of 75.9% in passes, 71.4% in duels, 68.2% in aerial duels and 61.5% in tackles. She also has 32 total clearances, 18 interceptions, and nine blocks in the eight games she has played in so far this season.
