Storylines

A Historic Homecoming: For the first time ever, the Chicago Red Stars will travel to play an NWSL game in the state of Kentucky as they take on Racing Louisville on the road. Wednesday night’s contest is also a homecoming for Chicago’s Arin Wright, as it will be her first professional soccer match in her home state. The Lexington-born defender spent her collegiate career at the University of Kentucky, and this year was named to the UK Athletics Hall of Fame.

Double the Stakes: Wednesday night’s contest between the Red Stars and Racing Louisville will not only count towards the NWSL standings (five points separate the two clubs in the table), but also counts towards progression in The Women’s Cup. The winner of the Chicago/Louisville match will take on the winner of the Paris Saint-Germain/FC Bayern Munich match, which takes place earlier in the day on Wednesday, on Saturday evening, with the losers of the two respective matches facing off Saturday afternoon in a third-place game.

Ready and Waiting: Attacker Katie Johnson has appeared in every game during the regular season, providing the Red Stars an attacking presence whether she comes off the bench or appears in the starting XI. Through the first half of the 2021 regular season, Johnson has played 474 minutes so far, has four starts, a 50% tackling success rate and also has an assist.
