Previous Result CHI: The Red Stars totaled 18 shots and battled Gotham FC to a scoreless draw September 4. HOU: Rachel Daly scored in the 10th minute for Houston, but the Dash would concede in the second half as they played to a 1-1 draw against the Orlando Pride on September 5th.

Storylines

H-Town Throwdown, the Finale: The Red Stars and the Dash will battle it out under the Friday night lights of Houston for the third and final time this season. The Red Stars were victorious at home last time against Houston 2-1 July 11, with Houston winning by the same scoreline on their home field May 29. Chicago and Houston also opened the 2021 Challenge Cup April 9, playing to a scoreless draw

“DiBernard”-O Captain, my Captain: After missing a spell of games due to being in the concussion protocol, Vanessa DiBernardo returned to the playing field last Saturday against Gotham FC as a second-half substitute. DiBernardo had 10 touches, a tackle, six passes and two shots in last Saturday’s game after coming in for Rachel Hill in the 69th minute.

Shooting from the Stars: Last week’s 18 shot output from the Red Stars comes as no surprise, and Kealia Watt and Mallory Pugh lead the team and are amongst the league leaders when it comes to putting pressure on opposing keepers. Pugh, who also is tied for fifth in the league for assists, rounds out the top-five players in the league with total shots so far this season with 35. Watt is also near the top of the league in an offensive category, as she is tied for second in the league so far in shots on goal with 23.
