CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars celebrate Pride Night Saturday, May 28, as they take on the Portland Thorns for the first time since the 2021 NWSL playoffs. Leading up to the match, fans will have the opportunity to bid on signed, exclusive Pride warm-up tops. Proceeds from the auction will benefit organizations supporting the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to the auction, fans who purchase tickets to the Red Stars match will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive Pride Night shirt and attend Drag Queen Bingo. Storylines:

Semi-finals Rematch: The Red Stars’ first match this season against the Thorns will be a rematch of their 2021 NWSL semifinal meeting that the Red Stars won 2-0. In their last regular-season meeting, the Red Stars won 2-1 behind goals from Rachel Hill and Kealia Watt. The Red Stars have won three of their previous four meetings with the Thorns.

Who’s Next?: Every match this regular season has seen at least one Red Star score their first regular-season goal. Ella Stevens and Bianca St-George both scored in week one against Louisville, Ava Cook scored against San Diego and this past weekend, Sarah Griffith scored against the Orlando Pride.

Battle of the #9’s: This match will feature two young and exciting players in the NWSL: Sophia Smith and Mallory Pugh. Both players started the year in exciting fashion playing with the U.S. Women’s National Team scoring and assisting in multiple matches. For their NWSL teams, both players have two goals on five attempts for Pugh and 11 for Smith, so far this season.
