CHICAGO — The Chicago Red Stars resume 2020 NWSL Fall Series play and return to Seatgeek Stadium on Sunday, September 20th against Sky Blue FC. Game time is at 12 p.m. CT live on CBS All-Access for US viewers and Twitch for international viewers.

Team News

Sky Blue FC finished their Challenge Cup group stage play earlier this summer as the seventh seed with a 1-2-1 record. They would then face the Washington Spirit in the quarterfinal round, winning the match 4-3 on penalty kicks to advance to the team’s first-ever NWSL semifinal. Despite making a second-half surge, however, Sky Blue would ultimately fall to the Red Stars in the semifinal by a score of 3-2. Following the conclusion of the Challenge Cup, the team would sign Jennifer Cudjoe to a multi-year contract after her performance throughout the tournament.

Opponent Form

Sky Blue FC won their first match of the NWSL Fall Series, beating the Washington Spirit by a score of 2-1. Ifeoma Onumonu and Midge Purce scored to give Sky Blue the victory.

Head-to-Head

Sky Blue FC and Chicago faced off in the semifinal round of the 2020 Challenge Cup on July 23rd. Two early Chicago goals from Bianca St.Georges and Rachel Hill followed by a second half strike from Savannah McCaskill propelled Chicago to the Challenge Cup Championship with a 3-2 win. In three meetings last season, Sky Blue FC won their first two matchups against Chicago before the Red Stars earned a 3-0 victory in their final meeting of the season.
