Chicago Red Stars Take Down Gotham FC 2-0



CHICAGO, Ill. (August 7, 2022) - The Chicago Red Stars beat New Jersey/New York Gotham FC by a score of 2-0 at SeatGeek Stadium tonight. Orland Park native, Tatumn Milazzo, opened up the scoring for the Red Stars in the first half, and rookie Ava Cook added a goal of her own in the second half off of a free kick from Mallory Pugh.

KEY MOMENTS:

13’ Ava Cook narrowly misses an opportunity to score as Gotham’s keeper is able to regain possession of the ball a few feet away from the goal

27’ Mallory Pugh’s shot from inside the box goes just wide of the goal

30’ A pass from Sarah Luebbert sets up Yuki Nagasato to shoot from inside the box but the attempt goes just high of the net

39’ Tatumn Milazzo slides under a charging Gotham forward to regain possession of the ball for the Red Stars, stopping a break away

45+4’ Danielle Colaprico crosses a ball into the box that Milazzo is able to get her head on to score a goal during stoppage time

55’ Pugh sets up Sarah Luebbert with a cross to take a shot on goal from inside the box, but Gotham’s goalkeeper is able to stop the shot

66’ Cook is able to take advantage of a free kick from Pugh to score the second goal of the match

  • The Red Stars dominated the match, with 60.4 percent possession, 1.7 expected goals and 39 touches in the opponent’s box compared to Gotham’s 39.6 percent possession, 0.15 expected goals and 4 touches in the Red Stars’ box.

  • The midfield of DiBernardo and Colaprico for the Red Stars proved once again to be crucial for the Red Stars. The two combined for six chances created for the team, and 16 recoveries between the pair.
