CHICAGO, Ill. (July 1, 2022) – The Chicago Red Stars today announced the addition of Emily Garnier and Bridgette Skiba to the roster as national team replacement players.
Defender Emily Garnier joins the Red Stars after playing with Napoli Italian Serie A Women league. Garnier played and started in 19 matches for the Napoli side last season. Prior to joining Napoli, the Colorado native spent time with Kvindeliga, of the Danish women’s league and Empoli FC in Serie A Women. Garnier spent four years playing at Colorado School of Mines where the defender won a number of awards including Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year (2016), only the second student-athlete in RMAC history to win both.
Goalkeeper Bridgette Skiba joined the Red Stars during preseason and has since trained with the team as a practice player. Skiba played for Oregon State University from 2018-2021 before joining the Red Stars. While at OSU the Portland native played in 67 matches, starting 55, and won multiple awards including being named to the Pac-12 Fall Academic Honor Roll three years in a row and CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team Honors. At the end of her collegiate career, Skiba ranked fourth in the Oregon State record book for career saves with 286 and second in the Pac-12 Standings in the saves category with 82.
