CHICAGO, Ill. (July 16, 2022) - The Chicago Red Stars lost to the Houston Dash 4-1 tonight despite a late goal from rookie Samantha Fisher. This is only Chicago’s second loss of the season and the first since May 15.
KEY MOMENTS:
4’ Sarah Griffith makes a run down the left side of the pitch and gets a cross to Ella Stevens whose shot ricochets off a Houston defender and goes out for a corner kick
10’ Houston causes a turnover in Chicago’s final third and are able to capitalize with a goal
19’ Chicago strings together a few passes in Houston’s final third that ends with a laser shot from Danielle Colaprico from outside the box that’s saved by Houston’s keeper
41’ Arin Wright finds space in Houston’s final third and takes a hard shot from outside the box but the Dash’s keeper is able to coral the ball
45+1’ Ebony Salmon beats the Chicago’s back line to a long ball played behind the line and is able to score
57’ Off a free kick taken by Colaprico, Tatumn Milazzo gets a good shot in the box toward goal but it ricochets off the back post
88’ Vanessa DiBernardo’s cross into Houston’s box from the right side bounces off of Ava Cook and lands in front of Samantha Fisher who is able to capitalize and scores one for Chicago
90+3’ Houston breaks away in Chicago’s territory and gest a shot off that gets through for a goal
GAME NOTES:
· Despite the loss, Chicago was able to outperform Houston in possession (53% to 46%), expected goals (2.41 to 1.16) and total shots (21 to 15)
· Colaprico was one of Chicago’s bright spots tonight, earning a top five spot in chances created, crosses, completed passes in the final third, and completed passes
· Another bright spot for the Red Stars was rookie Samantha Fisher who came in for Griffith in the second half. The rookie out of Notre Dame completed six passes in the final third and scored her first professional goal in the 88th minute
