Volunteer Applications for the 2021 Season are Now Open
CHICAGO (February 11, 2021) -- The Chicago Red Stars have announced volunteer applications are open for the 2021 NWSL season and are proud to introduce the Paul K. Yoo Service Award, an annual award in memory of former volunteer and club supporter, Paul Yoo. The award honors a Chicago Red Stars volunteer who has made exceptional contributions to the organization throughout the season and who exemplifies the distinct and admirable qualities Paul shared with the club and the world. This award recognizes a volunteer who is a team player, has a no-task-is-too small mentality, and who goes above and beyond to provide extraordinary service to all game day patrons while spreading positivity and joy.
“I can't express to you just how much the Red Stars meant to Paul,” Paul’s sister, Joanne Yoo said. “No matter the family gathering or holiday, he always let everyone know about the Chicago Red Stars and spread the word about all the upcoming events, his volunteering, and the team. He was the Red Stars’ truest and biggest fan, and volunteering for the organization brought him so much pride and joy.”
The Chicago Red Stars valued Paul’s dedication, willingness, hustle, and smile – all of which were apparent every time he stepped into the stadium. Paul was never above any role, was the person everyone wanted to be friends with, and was always the first to arrive and the last to leave on game day. This award is just one of many ways Paul’s spirit will be honored and remembered.
The Paul K. Yoo Service Award will be open to volunteers who have served for at least six 2021 Chicago Red Stars home matches. The recipient will be selected by popular vote from fellow volunteers and key Chicago Red Stars staff members who had consistent volunteer interaction. The award – which includes a commemorative plaque and $500 scholarship funded by the CRS Cares Foundation – will be presented to the winner by Paul’s parents, Noah and Grace Yoo, at the last home game of the season.
“Our family is thrilled that the Red Stars want to honor our Paul,” said Yoo. “From our family to the volunteer team and the Red Stars organization – thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is a beautiful tribute, and it means a great deal to our family and his friends.”
